Texas’ interconnected water resources—rivers, streams, lakes, springs, groundwater, bays, and estuaries—nourish the people, places, wildlife, and economy at the heart of our great state. 

Many of our water laws and policies date back to the late 1800s, but Texas has changed a great deal since then. Over the next 50 years, Texas’ population is expected to increase by 20 million people, expanding to 50 million residents and placing greater demand on our already limited supply. 

While droughts and floods have been and will always be a fact of life in our state, the math is clear—without solutions that support water when and where it’s needed, regional supply and demand needs will worsen.
