AUSTIN, TX Texas Water Trade is proud to receive a TAWWA Conservation and Reuse Award for our Net Zero Water Toolkit – A Decentralized Water Resource on Thursday, March 20th during the Texas Water Conference in Houston. Texas Water is the largest regional water conference in the U.S.
Released in April 2024, Texas Water Trade’s Net Zero Water Toolkit is an online resource designed to assist developers in incorporating water reuse technologies in new buildings. Net Zero Water is the design mindset that prioritizes the use of onsite water sources for a project’s resilience and reliability. This impactful demand management strategy has been proven to reduce a building’s potable water use by 40-80% annually and can be implemented in tandem with other One Water strategies.
“The Net Zero Water Toolkit is great information for building owners and designers to lean on when considering how their projects can participate in the water supply of their area,” said Chandler Crouch, P.E., Texas Water Trade’s Net Zero Water lead.
To develop the toolkit, Texas Water Trade convened a working group of experienced Texas practitioners to catalogue onsite water knowledge ranging from water quality, health and safety, treatment technology, regulatory permitting, development and financing vehicles, installation, operations, and maintenance. Texas Water Trade’s Net Zero Water Toolkit provides a comprehensible deep dive into the practice that will benefit planners, engineers, and the public. In combination with online publication of the Toolkit, Texas Water Trade broadcasted the onsite water reuse knowledge by presenting at industry conferences, workshops, and public events to raise awareness of the water reuse benefits.
The development of the toolkit was made possible thanks to an initial grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority through its Firm Water Conservation Cost-Share Program. Further funding support was provided by leading sponsors Aquacell by PHOENIX and Austin Water with additional support provided by Unicorn Service Solutions, LLC.
